These equipment are heat exchangers which atmospheric air is used as cooling fluid, instead of water or other coolant liquid. An aerocondenser is formed by finned tubes, which improve heat transfer. The vapors to condense are flowing through the tubes. Through the tubes bundle flows an atmospheric air stream blown by fans. The result is the cooling of the vapors and their condensation at the expense of the heating of the air.
This type of condensers are advantageous in plants where there are limitations on the availability of cooling water. They also make unnecessary any water recovery circuit with all that implies: pumps, cooling towers, water treatment, etc. Although a greater amount of air than water for the same cooling capacity is required, no contamination occurs, so they are a clean and safe type of equipment.
